Send to friend who’d eat a Krabby Patty with you!

In Arcata is a great burger spot that many rumor to be an inspiration to SpongeBob SquarePants Krusty Krab. When Stephen Hillenburg was attending Humboldt State University (now Cal Poly Humboldt) the restaurant was called the Burger Spot. In 1994, the restaurant changed ownership but kept a lot of the charm, aesthetics and some of the recipes. 🤩

It’s rumored that Stephen’s time at HSU studying Marine Biology and frequented Sue Meg State park for the tide pools, dramatic cliffs and beautiful ocean water. When Hillenburg was visiting the park it was called Patrick’s Point (coincidence?). 🤔

While this is a rumor it’s hard to refute that a small town that played such a huge role in the creator of SpongeBob’s life that he drew inspiration from not only Marine Biology but also his frequented places while attending school! The creator stated his inspiration for the show was based on when he was an employee at a restaurant in Maine but hard to argue Humboldt wasn’t part of the inspiration. Regardless, it’s super interesting and worth a visit! 🍔

In Humboldt County is one of the most beautiful and under appreciated drives in California! Gorgeous farmlands, majestic peaks and coastal views that give Big Sur a run for its money! 🌊

I went during a storm with snow, hail, rain and sunshine showing the changes in climates and elevation to get to this beautiful section of the Lost Coast. Always go with 4x4 during the winter (car is fine during summer with no rain). You will have no service so download offline Google Maps and go with a friend! 🗺️

Please treat this place with respect as if you lived there. You will love this unforgettable experience and create core memories with whoever joins you! 💙
Share with a friend for your next Big Sur trip! 📚

In a redwood forest in Big Sur is one of the most beautiful bookstores in California that you must check out! It has served the community for many years and has a great selection of books for its size. It’s perfect for those that need a break on a Big Sur roadtrip. 🚗
