1) Stopping putting pressure on myself to use the evenings for productivity.
Nothing good has ever come from me attempting “just a few admin tasks” at 10pm while already neurologically deceased 🫠

2) Lowering the amount of noise in the house whenever possible.
Less background TV. Less shouting between rooms. Less auditory chaos generally. I underestimate how much noise alone destabilises me.

3. Buying duplicates of things instead of constantly searching for them.
Chargers. Water bottles. Headphones. Hairbrushes. Tiny quality of life upgrade right there!

4. Letting myself sit down properly instead of permanently hovering in “I should be doing something” mode.
I genuinely think years of low-level internal urgency damaged my nervous system.

5. Realising that regulation is often contagious in families.
Which unfortunately means dysregulation is too. So me caring for my own nervous system is not actually selfish. It changes the emotional temperature of the house. But also accepting that sometimes survival is the most realistic goal, and being kinder to myself about what’s actually viable 😬

6. Not replying immediately to every demand for my attention.
Not everything is urgent, even if it feels urgent to someone else’s nervous system (if it's my kids then it usually is pretty urgent 🙃)

7. Eating before I hit full “snapped at everyone for no reason” mode.Turns out I am not, in fact, a well-regulated being when hungry.

8. Planning less “perfect days out” and more “minimum viable survival days”.
If it gets us out, fed and back without a meltdown chain reaction, it’s a win. Sometimes it's my expectations that are the problem.

9. Saying “no” to things that require me to be a different version of myself.
If it costs me three days of recovery, it’s not a “small thing”.

10. Reducing transitions wherever possible.
Transitions are where the entire household seems to spontaneously combust.

11. Keeping food in the house that requires zero decision-making.
Because executive functioning is already doing parkour all day.

12. Building in “buffer time” between everything.
 Not because I’m organised, but because I am tired of

The really confusing part of becoming an advocate for your children is realising it does not automatically transfer across to advocating for yourself whatsoever.

Apparently I can challenge institutions, quote legislation, sit in high-conflict meetings and argue my case to professionals…

but saying “sorry actually I don’t eat meat” still feels like I’m creating an unbearable administrative burden for another human being.

True story btw 🤣

I have only been vegetarian (well, pescatarian really) for a couple of years so lots of people don't know and it somehow feels the most awkward thing to just suddenly announce at this point!

Luckily the event I went to had buffet food so I stuck mostly to salad, cheese, bread and desserts 🍪😆
