- consistency is key. Build volume and speed seasons slowly over time (10% is a rule of thumb) & never both, one at a time.

- don’t worry about heart rate zones and zone 2 at the start. Just run on feel and build up confidence. Same goes as you progress, if you want to get faster you need to run faster. 

- 3 runs a week when getting started is plenty. If you want to build up fitness cross training is great, indoor bike to take the load off.

- strength training is essential, split leg/single leg exercies and isometrics for tendon health. 

- fuel you’re training. Carbs, sugar & protein before training to keep you strong, same after to recover better. If you’re running over a hour fuel during with quick absorbing carbs also. At least 60g of carbs a hour (especially races) 

- it’s you vs you, use other people as inspiration but the competition should be with you yesterday.
Every year I like to do something hard on my birthday. 

But a challenge doesn't just look different for everyone, it also looks different for you from yesterday. I’m currently coming back from an injury so even though I ran 800kms in 10 days last year what I’m doing today doesn’t seem like that much of a challenge. But I hate winter and I hate the cold. So let’s go for a run in snowy mountains, and build some resilience.
