We all want our kids to be happy but life is busy with lots of demand, sometimes it’s hard to tell if kids are growing up feeling safe, loved, valued and yes- happy!Kids don’t always show happiness by saying “I’m happy!” More often, it shows up in the small things like these:

1. They hum, sing, or talk to themselves while they play. That kind of little background joy often means a child feels calm, content, and comfortable in their world.

2. They get deeply absorbed in play. When kids feel safe and happy, they often have the freedom to sink fully into pretend play, building, creating, and exploring.

3. They let the hard feelings out with you. Happy kids are not happy all the time. Often, the children who feel the safest and most loved are the ones who melt down at home, ask for you constantly, and let you see the full range of their emotions.

4. They are affectionate in their own way. Whether it is a hug, leaning on you, climbing into your lap, or just wanting to sit nearby, happy kids often seek closeness with the people who make them feel safe.

5. They are comfortable doing nothing special with you. They do not always need entertainment, big plans, or constant excitement. Sometimes one of the quietest signs of a happy child is that they feel content just being near you in the ordinary moments.
