My son and I made this expedition of 5000 miles over Christmas in partnership with @arksen. This is a personal short film and I hope shares a little of our relationship and the wonder of the North in winter . We curiosity followed our compass north .
The need to make shots and edit cuts faster and faster is handed down from on high as a reaction to our society and social media’s hunger and attention span . I have found the opposite . We have sat and told stories for millennia . Stories that weave and flow with the pace of the rhythms of the natural world, of which we are a part. And I think we still crave this . It soothes and holds and it’s what we need in these times of ever increasing speed and pressure . The clip is from Ennedi in Chad where life is mostly unchanged for a few thousand years for those who live there . @kiricashell1 and I went to shoot the opening for her desert film for #planetearth 3 . Kiri is brilliant and wanted a single long shot down the Canyon to hear the camels and wonder at their whale like sounds before you saw them and realised the scale of the place . We only got two chances in the time we were there. The clip here isn’t the finished piece , just something I bunged together at the time . Try and see the finished opening it shows the power of a held single shot and I think kiri used it so well to set up her programme .
Such a treat to come across a mother leopard and her cub. It felt so intimate and so relatable.
