So many questions on what happened with Olympia and how she is now. About a month ago she had a raspy cough that kept her awake all night. Rough but nothing too dramatic. The next morning her breath was a bit laboured. A few hours it got progressively worse and - after counting it - she was at 75 breaths per minute which was a red flag 🚩

A&E. Blood oxygen was 83% so she was rushed out the back where a dozen nurses and doctors probed her while she was on air. I don’t need to go into too much detail again but it was a terrifying experience and we are so lucky to have the NHS. After a three-day stay she was treated for both pneumonia and sepsis.

Life after that event looks a bit different now. We are super aware of dust and allergens in the house. And she has a preventative inhaler each morning (“Puff Puff”) to manage the symptoms.

To keep the house clean and under control we do the following:

1. Vacuum every day. @dyson very kindly sent us their V16 Piston Animal which is a beast and illuminates the darkest corners of the room.
2. Change bedding much more frequently and don’t allow soft furnishings on the beds as these are the perfect home for dust house mites - which she has a major allergy to.
3. Removed the curtains from their room as these again are a haven for dust particles.
4. We now have the Dyson Big + Quiet Purifier on in their room 24/7 to monitor air quality. The flow on this thing is insane and the girls think that they now have a spaceship in their room.
5. We freeze soft toys. Yes it sounds weird, but this is the quickest way to kill any nasties off an keep them clean. We defrost them and vacuum them before giving them back.
6. Bath every night. Aside from the bonding time - the girls have their own aquatic coffee shop serving the likes of “Soapaccinos” - it ensures they go to bed clean and we don’t uno the hard work overnight.
